Guided canoe trips on the Yukon River, Canada20-DAY YUKON RIVER CLASSIC CANADIAN ADVENTUREThis guided canoe trip down the mighty Yukon River is suitable for beginners. You are far away from tourist centres, travelling the historic route into the KlodikeSpecial canoeing skills are not required. The guided tour starts in Whitehorse and follows the twists and bends of the river and through Lake Laberge all the way to Dawson City, the historic town out of the Klondike Gold Rush 200 years ago. We pass many relicts, ship wrecks and signs of the gold rush. The expedition travels over 700 kilometres (435 mi, exploring several abandoned settlements such as Fort Selkirk, Hootalinqua and Big Salmon Village. Camps are set up on the gravel & sand banks where one can enjoy a refreshing bath in the Yukon. Black bears are quite common in the valley and are often seen on the tops of the cliffs. Moose are quite numerous in the forested foothills and bald eagles nest along the river banks. Beavers are busy getting their winter supplies in and several times we have seen grizzly bears strolling along the shoreline. The only major interruption are the Five Finger Rapids, once a major navigation problem for the large paddle wheelers. Around the camp fire we hear how this problem weas solved and other interesting stories about erarly river travellers. At the confluence of thre Yukon and Klondike Rivers we reach Dawson City where we stay two days in a fine hotel. Sightseeing of local atractions include visits of the log cabin homes of the famous Canadian writers Jack London and poet Robert Service. Itinerary: Day 1: Whitehorse, Yukon Territories, Canada - Arrival, transfer to the hotel and meeting with the guide. Days 2 to 16: Yukon River - Start of this exciting canoe tour in Whitehorse down the Yukon River. Here you start your river adventure.
